21 Nov 2026, 1:00pm–2:00pm CST
November is Native American Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize indigenous peoples who have cared for this land for generations, and to learn more about their histories that have often been overlooked or omitted. To deepen our learning, Salem's LMDJ (Love Mercy Do Justice) Team has arranged for a guided tour at Hoċokata Ṫi, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Cultural Center, in Shakopee on Saturday, November 21st, at 1pm.
If you would like to attend, please register by Thursday, November 12.
The tour is $8 per person and is recommended for ages 12 and up.
No prepayment is required; pay when you arrive.
If you would need a ride to attend, please contact Kirsten O’Brien (kirstencobrien@gmail.com).
The tour includes an assortment of Dakota artifacts including arrowheads, tools, traditional clothing, and a dugout canoe, as well as items on loan from the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. Visitors will learn the story of the tribe through audio and visual interactive elements that depict the history of the Mdewakanton Dakota people, from their existence before European settlers to making treaties with the U.S government, as well as the journey to self-sufficiency.
